Swim Meet 101
What to expect at a swim Meet:
Sign up the week before for your child and volunteer position (look for the email). This is required to be done by Sunday night prior to the meet.Note that there are first and second half positions. If you have signed your child up for a meet but haven’t chosen a volunteer position when registration closes you will be assigned a volunteer position.
The coaches will assign events to individual swimmers. Every swim meet has the same events in the same order.(odd number events are girls, even number events are boys)
Show up at least 15 minutes before required check-in / scratch time (usually 7:00 am), plan to either get there early or walk a little bit.Don’t Park in front of people’s driveways or other prohibited areas (be a good neighbor).
Check in for your volunteer position with the volunteer coordinator and then have your child check in and get his or her race assignments.
Listen for meetings (timers and officials).
Be prepared to hang out outside most of the morning (chairs, blankets, bug spray, sunscreen, hats, awning, water, money for concessions, etc.).
Report to your volunteer position on time and stay until relieved. For home meets we change between event 38 and event 39.We will often do a parent relay during this time as well.
Help your child report to the ready area when their race is called for (these will be announced and have a sign that shows through what race they are preparing kids). This is anywhere between 3 and 10 events ahead of what is in the water.
Cheer on your child and our whole team
Respect the boundaries around the pool and those around you as well as the other volunteers. If there is an issue bring it to a board member.
Don’t leave before your child has completed all their races (especially relays) and you have finished your volunteer job.
Clean up your area, don’t leave trash, and make sure you got everything.
Don’t go into a volunteer area to take pictures. No pictures or video from behind the swimmers.
